Police officers from Brea and La Habra, with help from police dogs and helicopters from Anaheim and Los Angeles, teamed up to catch two suspected armed robbers Saturday within minutes of a service station holdup.

Moments after a robbery was reported at a Shell station at Euclid Street and Imperial Highway, a patrolling La Habra officer spotted a car fitting the getaway car’s description heading west on Imperial and then speeding north onto Idaho Street, said Cpl. Ray Breur of the La Habra Police Department.

The chase continued through La Habra, where the suspects’ car jumped the center divider on Lambert Road. They then drove east in the westbound lanes into Brea, where the engine blew up and their car crashed into another parked vehicle on a side street, he said.

The two men ran away in different directions, climbing fences and running through yards, Breur said. Both were arrested, and one was found with a loaded 9mm pistol and $500 in cash, the amount reported stolen, police said. No shots were fired.

Taken into custody by La Habra police were George Berry, a 23-year-old parolee from West Covina, and Joseph Perez of Hemet, Breur said.
