Filing Won’t Rain on Macy’s Parade
NEW YORK — Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade--with its giant cartoon characters and bigger than big-band sound--will march through Manhattan as usual this year, bankruptcy filing or no.
Major Macy’s expenditures now need the approval of the court overseeing the bankruptcy, but what judge would want to incur the wrath of New Yorkers by torpedoing the parade?
The event is as central to Macy’s as its store in Herald Square--the world’s largest. Macy’s has put on the parade since 1924 except for the World War II years.
