A 3-year-old boy was fatally wounded Tuesday in his home in the Lynwood area, and authorities said they were questioning six relatives who were in the house.

Ricardo Melgoza was shot at 8:15 a.m. at the Elizabeth Avenue house and was pronounced dead while undergoing surgery at St. Francis Medical Center, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Richard Dinsmoor.

Neighbors told reporters they heard a gunshot at the house followed by screams.

Deputy John Ashley said the boy was visiting his aunt when the shooting occurred.

“At the time of the incident, the victim’s mother was at work,” Ashley said.

The boy died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the upper torso, Ashley said.
