A 47-year-old man who killed his mother was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison.

A $10,000 fine was also levied Thursday against Lorne Schultz, who had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Mayme Schultz, 72. She was bludgeoned with a crowbar on Dec. 29, 1990, in her home in the San Diego Country Estates area of Ramona.

Lorne Schultz put his mother’s body in the trunk of her car and drove to Oxford, Miss., where he dumped the body near a rural highway.

Schultz was arrested Jan. 29, 1991, in Bay St. Louis, Miss.

San Diego Superior Court Judge Allan Preckel imposed a 25-years-to-life sentence for the murder and added a five-year term for Schultz’s prior felony conviction. Schultz had been prosecuted before for two check forgery cases in which his mother was the victim.

Schultz had been placed on probation on the forgery cases, but his probation was revoked when he was arrested in Mississippi for “being out of the county without permission,” Deputy Dist. Atty. Dave Greenberg said.
