Discounts Available for New Maui Resort : Seniors traveling to Hawaii can get 15% off suites in quiet Wailea.
Mature travelers can get a generous discount at the Kea Lani Hotel, the elegant new resort that opened in December in the quiet conclave of Wailea, at the south end of the island of Maui. The Kea Lani has more than 400 one-bedroom suites that can accommodate up to four persons comfortably. All suites have spacious private lanais, mini-kitchens with microwave ovens, refrigerators, wet bars and a separate TV in the bedroom.The living room has a queen-size sofa bed. In addition, all guests receive a cotton robe that they can take home with them. Prices on suites range from $225 to $395 per room daily, depending on location and view. However, for travelers 62 and over, these rates are reduced by 15%. The discount offer is valid through Dec. 21, and there are no blackout periods, although the offer is valid only on a space-available basis. Photo ID is required. On the subject of Hawaii, what was formerly a good deal for mature travelers on Honolulu’s public transit system, called “TheBus,” now costs more but is still a money saver for frequent visitors. People 65 and older can pay a fee of $15 for a BussPass, good for unlimited “free” transportation for a period of four years on TheBus, which has routes to all parts of the island of Oahu. An alternate plan offers the BusDiscountCard for $6, which is also valid for four years and permits the holder to ride TheBus at half fare. (The present full fare is 60 cents.)

Mature travelers who don’t mind the summer’s heat in the desert can get a substantial discount at the elegant Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Rancho Mirage, adjacent to Palm Springs. From May 26 through Sept. 12, the special rate for guests over 60 will be $99 per day for two persons, based on Sunday-through-Thursday check-in.
