COUNTYWIDE : Derailment Cleanup Payment Still Sought
- Share via
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors will renew demands Tuesday that Southern Pacific Transportation Co. pay more than $570,000 for the hazardous waste cleanup that followed last July’s train derailment near Seacliff.
Supervisor Maggie Erickson Kildee has requested that a letter be sent from the chairman of the board requesting that Southern Pacific immediately send a check for $572,590.30 to the county.
Erickson Kildee said that she is upset and concerned that Southern Pacific has not paid the county and other agencies that responded to the derailment, even though the company pre-approved all of the cleanup costs.
The board discussion comes after assistant county counsel Robert R. Orellana’s request for payment last month failed to elicit an immediate response.
