CAMARILLO : Plan for New Fire Station Advances
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday took the first step toward purchasing a 1.28-acre parcel in Camarillo to build a new fire station on the south side of the Ventura Freeway.
The county set aside $740,500 to purchase a lot on Pickwick Drive between Arneill Road and Mobil Avenue. The facility would replace the 50-year-old Station 54 at Ventura Boulevard between Glenn Drive and Lewis Road.
On Tuesday, the board approved a resolution signifying its intention to purchase the property.
“Station 54 is too small to accommodate the modern emergency apparatus and the property is not large enough to accommodate a new station,” said Paul Ruffin, the county’s deputy director of public works.
“The new site . . . is of ample size to house an engine company, a truck company and allow space for a future expansion,” he said. The board approved the motion unanimously.
