FULLERTON : City Appoints Interim Fire Chief
The city named an interim fire chief this week to replace Chief Ron Coleman, who was named state fire marshal by Gov. Pete Wilson last month.
Marc Martin, division chief of operations at the department, will take over as interim chief on Monday, the same day Coleman will begin in his new post in Sacramento.
“This Fire Department is a good department,” said Coleman, who had held the top post there since 1985. “I don’t feel like I am letting go of the reins. We have a good organization here and competent division chiefs.”
Coleman said his new job will require him to approve and oversee the safety training programs for firefighters statewide, as well as enforcing safety rules for restaurants, movie theaters and other public places.
The city manager will begin recruiting and taking applications for a permanent chief and paring down the list of candidates, officials said.
