GRANADA HILLS : Sketches of Suspects in Slaying Released

Los Angeles police have released composite sketches of two men they suspect are responsible for more than a dozen follow-home robberies in the northern San Fernando Valley area since mid-December and the slaying of a Granada Hills art dealer outside his home last week.

Typically, the assailants followed residents of well-to-do suburbs near the Simi Valley Freeway who were driving late-model expensive cars and robbed them as they emerged from their vehicles, Lt. Kyle Jackson said.

No one was harmed until Fritz H. Waninger, 39, was shot in his driveway in the 12100 block of Elnora Place at 11:30 p.m. Feb. 26, police said.

Based on prior robberies, police speculated that the men followed Waninger home in his Mercedes, approached him at gunpoint and shot him when he resisted, Detective Wayne Newton said. Police do not have a description of a third man who usually drove a getaway car, Newton said.
