The owners of a Mission Valley hotel have reached a multimillion-dollar settlement in a lawsuit brought by a Canadian volleyball player injured by a faulty room heater and the family of another player who died when he inhaled toxic fumes emitted by the heater.

The amount of the settlement was kept secret, but lawyers said it was between $1 million and $5 million.

Lawyers for Atlas Hotels, owners of the Mission Valley Inn, and for the two athletes announced the out-of-court settlement Tuesday. Henry Wong, 21, suffered brain damage and other neurological injuries when he inhaled carbon monoxide fumes from the wall heater on Jan. 1, 1991.
