Three People, Including Toddler, Wounded as Gunman Opens Fire in South-Central
A gunman opened fire on two men in South-Central Los Angeles on Wednesday night, wounding them critically, and a stray bullet struck a toddler in a nearby apartment building, police said.
The 18-month-old boy was watching television with his parents when a bullet pierced a window and grazed him, investigators said. The youngster was listed in good condition at St. Francis Medical Center in Lynwood, officials said.
Police said a man drove up to the corner of 116th Street and Avalon Boulevard, brandished a semiautomatic weapon and confronted two men standing on the pavement shortly before 9 p.m.
The men tried to run, but their assailant chased them and gunned them down, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Larry Manchester. He said the shooting appeared to be gang-related. The victims, both in their 20s, have gang tattoos, he said.
The wounded men were taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, where they were listed in critical condition. Their assailant returned to his car and escaped, investigators said.
The identities of the wounded men and the child were not available.
