Musher Joe Runyan, who won the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in 1989, tore through two more checkpoints Wednesday, trying to put distance between himself and other top mushers before he takes a mandatory 24-hour layover. He is almost to Ophir, Alaska, 474 miles into the 1,159-mile race from Anchorage to Nome.
