AMERICA’S CUP UPDATE : NOTEBOOK : ‘Strange’ Helicopter Not Strange at All
SAN DIEGO —
The America’s Cup mystery of the orange helicopter has been solved.
Dennis Conner Tuesday complained about the aircraft hovering so closely over Stars & Stripes that it caused his spinnaker to collapse three times.
Geoff Mason, executive producer of the America’s Cup Organizing Committee’s host broadcast, said it couldn’t have been his because his was red, white and blue. The Federal Aviation Administration was asked to investigate.
Oops.
Mason learned Wednesday that his helicopter had been repainted orange between rounds.
