Monrovia : Road Repaving Cut Back

A plan to resurface four major streets was scaled back by the City Council last week because of unanticipated cost.

Public Works Director Robert K. Sandwick told the council that the project would cost about $1.1 million--twice what was anticipated--because of the deteriorated condition of the streets.

Instead of repaving Myrtle and Mountain avenues, Duarte Road and Foothill Boulevard, as had been planned, the council voted to resurface only portions of two streets: Myrtle Avenue south of Huntington Drive, and Duarte Road between 5th Avenue and Walker Street. The work will cost $600,000 and should be completed in May, Sandwick said.
