Story on Abortion Issue Generates Letters on Women’s Right to Choose

Thank, you for publishing the extremely sensitive story about abortion by Lee Ezell (“The Instant Answer Is the Cruel One,” Feb. 26). It is important that this type of information is made available before an abortion is chosen.

Ms. Ezell separates the pregnancy (which is for nine months) from the life of that child, potential parent and grandparent (which covers a lifetime). We look for too many instant cures. There are many married couples who want to adopt babies because they cannot conceive their own, while millions of potential babies are destroyed each year. What an irony!

The choice of life is given to the mother. She must be informed when making such a decision. This is not the Dark Ages. The mother must be told of the potential inner conflicts that will be with her the rest of her life. Certainly not all mothers will react the same way, but this should not be a reason to deny information.

No abortion should be performed to avoid embarrassment. Abortion should not be used as a means of birth control.

The rapist is the only one who should be punished. We should not punish the innocent fetus who cannot even speak for himself. We give the fetus a death sentence even in states where capital punishment is banned and without due process.
