CARLSBAD : Vista Man Dies of Stab Wounds
A 33-year-old Vista man was stabbed to death early Sunday, apparently by an acquaintance, police said.
Martin Velasco died at Tri-City Medical Center at 1:10 a.m. after being stabbed just below his heart, Carlsbad police said. Authorities believe that Velasco knew the person who attacked him about 12:30 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in Carlsbad, Lt. Greg Fried said.
“It was a fight between friends, or acquaintances, you might say,” said Fried, who said the case is still under investigation.
Three of Velasco’s friends brought him to the hospital about 1 a.m., police said. He was bleeding from his chest, and the friends told police that he had been stabbed in Oceanside, according to Fried.
Police later determined that the stabbing occurred in Carlsbad, and police there launched their investigation Sunday. No suspects had been identified Sunday evening.
