Fluor Unit Gets Refinery Job
IRVINE — Fluor Daniel Inc. announced Monday that it was awarded a contract to modernize one of Europe’s largest oil refineries in Belgium. The contract is part of an $800-million fuel oil upgrading project at Antwerp, Belgium-based Fina Raffinaderij Antwerpen N.V. to meet more stringent environmental standards and the demand for lighter automobile fuel. The refinery currently produces high-sulfur fuel oil largely used by tankers and power plants.
Fluor Daniel, the principal subsidiary of Irvine-based Fluor Corp., will oversee the upgrading and provide engineering, procurement and construction management services to the project, which is scheduled for completion in the fall of 1994.
