SAN DIEGO : Tuition-Rise Protest Continues at UCSD
A protest over the proposed 20% tuition increases for undergraduates that ignited Friday on the UC San Diego campus was still in progress Monday as a group of students continued their sit-in at a conference room, UCSD officials said.
There were no plans to remove the protesters, whose numbers fluctuated throughout the weekend from as few as six to as many as 30, UCSD Assistant Police Chief Jay Dyer said. The students set up tables, hung posters and were seeking signatures for a petition.
The increase, which would raise basic fees from $2,486 a year to $3,036, is scheduled to be voted on in April, a UCSD spokeswoman said.
