DIVISION IV BOYS’ SOCCER : Bishop’s Tops La Jolla Country Day
Bishop’s decided it wasn’t going to settle for a tie the third time around, especially when there was more at stake this meeting.
Third-seeded Bishop’s and fourth-seeded La Jolla Country Day squared off in the San Diego Section Division IV boys’ soccer championship Monday night at San Pasqual.
Although the game was tied early, Bishop’s scored four unanswered goals for the 5-1 victory.
“They’ve improved a lot since the first two times we played,” La Jolla Country Day Coach Jerry Fleischhacker said of the first two meetings this season, both of which ended in a tie. “They took all the good shots, they controlled the ball. Bishop’s did everything well.”
LJCD (12-7-5), in its first championship appearance, got on the board first, with a goal by Trigger Weital, but Peter Gonzalez answered for Bishop’s, and the Knights went up, 2-1, at the half.
En route to the final, Bishop’s turned back Santa Fe Christian, which upset No. 2 Calvin Christian, and LJCD upended top-seeded Christian.
