SAN DIEGO : Gunman Fires Into Apartment, Shoots 3
Three people were shot, one seriously, early Tuesday when their East San Diego apartment was sprayed with bullets through an open window, police said.
The three, Travis Starks, Olan Cazao and Joseph Smith, all 18, were shot by an unknown gunman who stuck a 9-millimeter weapon through the window at 2:30 a.m. in the 4200 block of 52nd Street and opened fire, San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said.
Starks was shot five times in the neck and chest. He was taken to Mercy Hospital, where hospital officials said he was in critical but stable condition Tuesday night.
Cazao was shot in the left buttock and Smith was shot in the shoulder and foot. They were taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where they were treated and released, Robinson said.
Robinson said the identity of the gunman, who fired at least 12 rounds through closed drapes, was unknown, but that the police gang unit is investigating. A woman and infant in the apartment escaped injury.
