Pro, Con Responses to Q & A With Galanter
- Share via
While Galanter has repeatedly supported mega-developments in our area, she has called critics of these projects “NIMBYS.”
Now she is making the ultimate NIMBY (“Not in My Back Yard”) proposal by supporting a regional airport in the Mojave Desert. Her only legitimate reason is that Palmdale land is cheaper than Westchester’s.
The regional airport would require all L.A. taxpayers to fund a new airport facility. It would require all L.A. taxpayers to fund new freeway systems to and from the Mojave Desert. It would require a mass transit system paid for by the taxpayers. And all area residents would have to suffer the increased pollution and ecological degradation caused by the huge increase in traffic to and from a remote desert area.
The hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars required to fund this Galanter fiasco would pale in comparison to the few million required to buy Westchester/El Segundo land.
Must all L.A. taxpayers fund a few thousand reliable votes for Councilwoman Galanter’s political ambitions?
