THOUSAND OAKS : Center for Victims of Floods to Close
A Thousand Oaks disaster center, one of six opened to assist victims of last month’s downpour, will close today, a spokeswoman said.
Despite expectations of stormy weekend skies, the Thousand Oaks center and five others in Los Angeles County, are scheduled to close permanently at 7 p.m. They provided financial aid information and housing to almost 2,500 households, said Mary Kennedy of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The number of applications has dwindled in recent weeks, prompting officials to close the facilities, Kennedy said.
Residents whose homes were damaged or destroyed by the February storm may still apply for housing assistance, federal grants or low-interest loans by calling the toll-free number, 1-800-462-9029, from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. until April 27.
Residents with hearing or speech impairments may call 1-800-462-7585.
