Julius Miklowitz; Caltech Seismologist
Julius Miklowitz, 72, retired professor of applied mechanics at Caltech who researched aspects of seismology. Educated at the University of Michigan and Harvard University, Miklowitz detailed his work in more than 50 technical papers and the 1977 book “Theory of Elastic Waves and Wave Guides.” His research involved the effects of elastic waves through solid material, which can be helpful in earthquake engineering.
