Concerned About Election Spending in Monterey Park
Many thanks for the excellent articles on Monterey Park council candidates and how they seek funding (Times, March 12). These articles reflect a sad commentary on the politics of today.
When a potential exists that over $70,000 (including all candidates) can be raised for a council seat, it raises many concerns as to the independence of a candidate. This constitutes the largest amount of money raised in the history of any Monterey Park council race, all for a job that pays $200 a month.
No wonder voters find this the best argument for putting a lid on campaign spending. No wonder we keep hearing about the anti-incumbent mood sweeping the country.
