CASTAIC : Lebec Man Dies as Car Hits Tow Truck
A Lebec man died Wednesday after his car struck a tow truck on the Golden State Freeway near Castaic, the California Highway Patrol said.
Billy Joe England, 50, was pronounced dead about 4:30 a.m. near the Vista del Lago freeway overpass, CHP Officer John Manduca said.
The other driver, Salti Ayyoub, 53, of Castaic, was arrested at his home on suspicion of felony hit-and-run driving after he allegedly fled the scene, Manduca said.
The accident occurred when England, who was headed south, struck the right rear of Ayyoub’s tow truck while Ayyoub was either parked or driving slowly on the center median, Manduca said.
It was unclear if Ayyoub, who was not injured, would have been arrested if he had not fled, Manduca said. The case was still under investigation.
