David Robinson, the San Antonio Spurs’ All-Star center, underwent surgery on his left thumb Saturday and is expected to be sidelined six weeks.

The NBA playoffs begin the week of April 20, and Robinson would miss the early games.

He expressed doubt about playing on the U.S. Olympic team this summer.

“That’s not even a consideration any more,” he said. “I have to worry about playing for the people that sign my paychecks.”

Robinson had played in 232 consecutive games. He was averaging 23.2 points and 12.2 rebounds.
