Abaxis Inc. announced the appointment of Gary H. Stroy as president and chief executive and Kenneth E. Rubenstein as vice president of development of the Mountain View, Calif., firm.

Stroy is a co-founder of the company and has served as chairman since its formation in 1989. He succeeds Richard K. Leute, who resigned as an officer and director but will continue as a consultant to the company, which is developing a portable blood analyzer.

Before joining Abaxis, Rubenstein managed his own product development consulting firm, where he assisted more than a dozen young companies introducing their first products.
