COUNTYWIDE : Applicants Sought for Grand Jury
Court officials are accepting applications until Friday from people who wish to serve one year on the grand jury.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old and must be able to spend five days a week on jury matters, although it may not take all day each day, said Betty Kane, jury services manager.
Judges will pick 19 people to serve on the jury, beginning June 30. Eleven alternates will also be selected.
Jurors will receive $20 a day, plus mileage.
The grand jury considers indictments, or criminal charges, brought by the district attorney’s office, and it acts as a watchdog for city and county governments and special districts.
Nomination forms can be obtained from judges, county supervisors or City Council members. Applicants may also get them by calling 654-5025.
