LOS ANGELES : Major Cleanup Planned Saturday for L. A. River
A nonprofit group has scheduled a major cleanup of the Los Angeles River from the Sepulveda Basin to Long Beach this Saturday.
The Los Angeles River Project, which is heading the cleanup effort, will target debris--from branches to rocks to household appliances--that washed down the river during the recent heavy rains.
On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors declared Saturday “Operation Clean Sweep Day” in honor of the project and offered assistance from county departments. The board also voted to require participants to sign waivers so that the county will not be liable if someone is injured.
People interested in volunteering for the effort may contact Jo Ann Barker at (213) 259-8642.
