On Golden Silence: Actress Polly Holliday might have made a lot of noise as the shrill, talkative Southern waitress Flo on the television series “Alice,” but her message to Georgia College drama students this week was to use silence to discover themselves. Set aside 30 minutes a day to quietly ponder where you fit in the grand scheme of life, Holliday told the students. “You must have silence. This is where your imagination takes over,” said Holliday, who as the wisecracking Flo had a fondness for shouting, “Kiss my grits!”
