La Canada Flintridge : Filmmaking Law Eased
Hoping to attract more filmmaking, the City Council on Monday eased restrictions on cinema and television production in the city, lowering some fees but increasing others.
The revisions to the city’s filmmaking law lower the cost of required liability insurance from $10 million to $2 million and drop all fees for filming on private property.
High insurance premiums were considered the principle deterrent to filming in the city, and the previous charges were thought unjustified by the city and the California Film Commission, said Assistant City Manager Mark Alexander.
Other revisions include an increase in permit fees from $1,000 to $1,500 for filming on city property. A $250 application fee will be required for location shooting at Descanso Gardens, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and on all property belonging to the La Canada Unified School District and other nonprofit organizations.
