WHITTIER : Ex-Coach Gets 20 Years for Molesting 4 Youths
A former Whittier youth soccer coach was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in jail for molesting four Whittier youths, including members of his soccer team.
A tearful Raymond Lee McClendon, 29, listened with clenched fists as Norwalk Superior Court Judge Robert W. Armstrong told him, “You’ll have to get some help, so that when you get out you’ll be able to control your desires.”
McClendon was charged in October with 19 counts of molestation involving children ages 10 to 13. A judge convicted him on 10 counts. The alleged molestations occurred from September, 1988, to June, 1991, in places ranging from McClendon’s truck to the homes of families with whom he lived.
Several victims’ parents attended the hearing. McClendon, who would be eligible for parole in 10 years, plans to appeal the sentence, his mother said.
