CASTAIC : Inmate Found on Jail Grounds
An inmate who had apparently escaped from the Peter J. Pitchess Honor Rancho jail facility this weekend was found dehydrated and badly cut in an abandoned hog farm on a remote portion of the grounds, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.
Raul Rodriguez, 41, was found about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday by county firefighters during a training exercise on the facility grounds. He offered no resistance and was treated at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, Deputy Benita Hinojos said.
“He suffered cuts on his hands and feet,” Hinojos said. Rodriguez is awaiting trial on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, she said.
Another inmate, Mario Gonzales, 24, succeeded in escaping from the Pitchess property but was found by deputies two hours after the Sunday morning jailbreak near Castaic Lake, about two miles from the jail facility. He awaits trial on robbery charges.
