Constellation Due in May
The aircraft carrier Constellation is scheduled to return to its San Diego home port in May, 1993, a San Diego congressman said.
The aircraft carrier will return after it is refurbished in Philadelphia, said Rep. Randy Cunningham (R-San Diego). He said Navy officials made the announcement Thursday to the House Armed Services Committee.
The Constellation staff and their families will number about 5,000, which, Cunningham said, will translate into a $100-million injection into the local economy.
The Constellation left San Diego in mid-1990 for servicing.
“I’m proud that the Connie’s coming back,” Cunningham said. “The Constellation means jobs for San Diegans.”
