HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Highland Rebounds From 6-Run Deficit, Beats Littlerock, 12-11

Highland High posted a wild, come-from-behind, 12-11 victory over cross-town rival Littlerock in eight innings Friday in a nonleague baseball game at Littlerock.

With one out in the eighth, Ladd Stilson hit a single up the middle to drive in Tom King with the winning run.

Trailing, 10-4, in the sixth inning, Highland (5-6) scored seven runs. A three-run double by winning pitcher Jim Reel capped the rally and gave the Bulldogs an 11-10 lead.

Stilson finished four for five with three runs batted in and two runs.

In other baseball games:

Channel Islands 8, Camarillo 6--Alex Zavala sparked a four-run first inning with a two-run double and hit a three-run home run in the fourth to lead the Raiders (11-1, 5-1) to a Marmonte League win at Camarillo.

Andy Hall led an 11-hit Camarillo attack, going four for four. The Scorpions (7-7, 1-5) scored four runs in the seventh inning.

Royal 8, Agoura 0--Only one Agoura runner reached third base as Royal pitcher Matt Goebel (3-1) pitched a four-hitter in a Marmonte League game at Royal. Dave Landaker, Paul Taylor and Dan Izquierdo each had two hits for the Highlanders (8-3, 5-1). Landaker scored twice and stole a base and Taylor drove in three runs.

Hueneme 8, Dos Pueblos 1--Four batters combined for eight of host Hueneme’s 11 hits in a Channel League game.

Chris Gonzales (1-1) went the distance for Hueneme, striking out eight and giving up only two hits. Gonzales, Casey Bolen, Jess Olivares and Juan Ponce each had two hits for the Vikings (6-6-1, 2-3-1).

Saugus 6, Quartz Hill 3--Junior right-hander Bobby Cowan improved to 5-0 with a six-hitter and Danny Cato went two for three with a run-scoring double as host Saugus (7-3, 4-0) remained unbeaten in Golden League play.

With his team leading, 1-0, in the fourth, Brian O’Leary hit a two-run single to key a four-run inning. Chris Hernandez added a home run for Saugus.

Antelope Valley 11, Ridgecrest Burroughs 1--Raul McNaughton (2-3) pitched a five-hitter for host Antelope Valley in a Golden League game. Ryan Branch had three hits and four runs batted in for Antelope Valley (4-5-1, 3-2), and teammates Marcus Armstrong and Jason Kresser each had two hits.

Moorpark 5, Bishop Diego 1--Junior right-hander Richard Hernandez (1-0) threw a two-hitter and struck out six in his first start for the Musketeers (10-0, 5-0) in a Tri-Valley League game.

Moorpark’s Jake Flesher and Ken Ditto (two RBIs) each went two for three.

Fillmore 8, Santa Paula 5--Jerry Sandoval went two for three with two RBIs and pitcher Jaime Duran, who relieved Louie Garza after two innings, struck out seven and scattered three hits for host Fillmore in a Frontier League game.

Montclair Prep 9, Maranatha 5--Jeff Shapiro had three hits and four RBIs and Mike Gursey added two doubles for host Montclair Prep (7-3-1, 3-0) in an Alpha League game. Russell Ortiz (4-0) struck out nine in six innings.

Paraclete 15, Kern Valley 14 (nine innings)--The Spirits (5-5, 2-0) scored three runs in the ninth on a two-out rally to beat visiting Kern Valley in a Desert-Inyo Large League game. Brian Lathrop’s infield single scored Larry King with the winning run.

L.A. Lutheran 33, Pilgrim 2--Kevin Brown (four hits, five RBIs, six runs and seven stolen bases) and Mike Baumen (four hits, four runs and seven RBIs) led a 17-hit attack for L.A. Lutheran (7-0, 4-0) in a Heritage League game.

Western Christian 4, Village Christian 2--Jason Robitaille went two for three, but the Crusaders lost an Alpha League game.

St. Bonaventure 13, Villanova 1--John McNamara hit two home runs and drove in five runs as St. Bonaventure (4-5) won a nonleague game against host Villanova (8-2). Brad Burnett pitched a four-hitter for the Seraphs.

SOFTBALL

Alemany 5, St. Bernard 3--Tanya Ortiz and Steffanie Parks each went two for three for the host Indians (11-3, 3-0) in a Mission League game.

La Salle 7, Harvard-Westlake 2--Westlake committed seven errors that led to seven unearned runs in a San Fernando Valley League game. Ryan O’Meara and Kevin O’Malley each had two hits for Westlake (7-4, 1-1).

Notre Dame 8, Bishop Montgomery 7--Araceli Romero smashed a two-out, two-run double with the bases loaded in the seventh to lift the host Knights (6-5, 3-0) to a Mission League win. Sharon Marciniak was four for four.

Taft 3, San Fernando 0--Jamie Angel was three for four with a double and two RBIs to lift the Toreadors (10-1, 4-0) to a Northwest Conference victory. Julie Kawamoto tossed a three-hitter to earn her 10th win.

BOYS’ TRACK

Kennedy 71, San Fernando 56--San Fernando won six of 10 races but the defending North Valley League champion Golden Cougars won all five field events.

El Camino Real 82, Taft 45--El Camino Real’s John Golden broke a 17-year-old school pole vault record by three inches with a vault of 14 feet 6 inches in a West Valley League meet at El Camino Real.
