Rare-Book Thief Loses Appeal in Federal Court

ST. LOUIS, Mo. — A federal appeals court on Monday upheld the conviction of a man tried for stealing and defacing thousands of rare books from collections around the country.
The U.S. 8th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld last year’s conviction in Des Moines of Stephen Blumberg. He was sentenced to 71 months in prison and fined $200,000.
