Countywide : Massa Installs 800 Line for Complaints
Taking a cue from Jerry Brown’s presidential campaign, Ventura County supervisorial candidate Dick Massa has installed a toll-free 800 telephone line.
Although the line will save callers from within his Ventura-based 1st District a maximum of a few pennies, Massa said he installed the phone line this week to reach out to county voters.
And unlike Brown, Massa said he is not soliciting campaign contributions with the new number.
“It’s not a gimmick at all,” Massa said. “We’ve been trying to figure out how to get people to call us, and the phone company says people will call an 800 number before they call a regular one.”
Massa, who is running against incumbent Susan K. Lacey, said he will advertise his new number and hopes that people will call with their complaints about county government. He said the line costs $45 a month plus a minimum of 22 cents for each call.
“I hope it costs me a couple of hundred bucks a month,” he said. “I hope the people are interested enough to call.”
