CHANNEL ISLANDS BEACH : Deadline Extended for Advisory Panel
Officials in Channel Islands Beach have again extended the deadline for applications to a citizens advisory committee that will help plan the unincorporated community’s future water supply.
With only half the applications needed to fill the 18-member advisory panel having been received, the community service district has set a new deadline of Thursday for residents to apply, General Manager Gerard Kapuscik said Thursday.
Other residents who district officials have asked to join the committee are still undecided, he said. The extension is the second the district has made since announcing plans to appoint the advisory body.
Final selection will be made at the district board meeting April 28.
The committee will assist district staff, a planning team and the district board in seeking new sources of water for the district, which currently obtains all its water from wells.
The small, affluent beach community has joined Port Hueneme and the Naval Seabee base to study the possible construction of a desalination plant.
Volunteers can call the district 985-6021, or mail an application to Channel Islands Beach Community Service District, 353 Santa Monica Drive, Channel Islands Beach, 93035.
