Citicorp, the nation’s biggest bank issuer of credit cards, will introduce cards with photographs in an effort to cut back on fraud, a spokeswoman said Friday.

“We’ve tested the cards around the country, and we like the results a lot,” Citicorp spokeswoman Susan Weeks said.

Citicorp has more than 30 million credit card customers.

The decision to introduce photo credit cards is seen as a way of cutting down on the use of stolen credit cards, Weeks said. Photo credit cards would also provide better identification, she said.

Citicorp has scheduled a news conference for Monday, when the company said it will announce a “major new product development” for its Citibank MasterCard and Visa credit card operations.

Weeks would not say if it would concern photo credit cards but said a new card product of some kind will be unveiled.
