President Bush’s Campaign
President Bush has recently been trying to distance himself from his dismal record on domestic issues by blaming Congress for its lack of support for his programs.
In the business world any manager who tells his superior that the company’s goals are not being met because he cannot get subordinates to “get with the prescribed program” would be fired and replaced with someone who can get results.
President Lyndon Johnson was one of the least liked presidents, but he was also one of the most productive in getting his programs enacted and funded by Congress. He was able to understand his opponents as people and not faceless ideologies. He didn’t vacillate; you knew where he stood. Bush seems to think the fact that he is President should be reason enough for Congress to follow his lead.
It is unfortunate President Bush wants to take the easy way out and blame someone else for his lack of accomplishments. Then again, his tenure has been wrought with worldwide finger-pointing and saber-rattling. All of which has emanated from the White House.
