San Diego : Illegal Immigrant Shot Dead by Driver
A 23-year-old illegal immigrant was fatally shot Monday as he tried to scale a freeway wall onto Interstate 5 in San Ysidro, police said.
The unidentified man, joined by three other illegal immigrants and their guide, was in the 1900 block of Valentino Street about 8 a.m. when he and the others tried to climb a wall onto southbound I-5 just north of Dairy Mart Road, Lt. John Welter said.
At the same time, a man driving a black Nissan sports car pulled into the cul-de-sac of Valentino Street and began shooting at the men, Welter said.
One of the men was hit and fell into some bushes on the west side of I-5, Welter said. The injured man was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died.
The other four men, three of whom fled, were uninjured, Welter said. One man stayed with the wounded one, police said. Police said no motive for the shooting is known, and they have no suspects.
