Amoco Corp. reported a 71% decline in first-quarter earnings and blamed the decrease on weak sales and lower crude oil and natural gas prices.
Net income for the three months that ended March 31 fell to $234 million, or 47 cents a share, from $492 million, or 98 cents a share, for the comparable period a year ago that included a windfall of $311 million from a change in accounting procedures. Revenue fell 13% to $6.4 billion from $7.3 billion.
