Baltimore first baseman Randy Milligan was released from a Kansas City hospital Thursday after sustaining a minor concussion in Wednesday night’s game against the Royals. Milligan was knocked unconscious when he ran into second baseman Billy Ripken while chasing a ground ball during the fifth inning. . . . The Chicago White Sox won the contract grievance filed by the Major League Baseball Players Assn. on behalf of outfielder Dave Gallagher and others. Arbitrator George Nicolau denied the claim that the team violated baseball’s collective bargaining agreement by telling young players their contracts would be renewed if they did not agree to long-term deals.

The Pittsburgh Pirates activated catcher Don Slaught, who missed 14 games because of a strained muscle in his right rib cage. The Pirates opened a roster spot by returning pitcher Miguel Batista to the Montreal Expos. Batista, 21, was selected from the Expo organization last December and had to stay with the Pirates for the entire 1992 season or be offered back to the Expos for $25,000, half the claiming price.

The Minnesota Twins put third baseman Mike Pagliarulo on the 15-day disabled list because of a strained right wrist and activated first baseman Kent Hrbek.
