PREP BASEBALL : Bishop Amat Wins One for Book, 39-1
La Puente Bishop Amat High set a Southern Section record with 36 hits in defeating Compton Dominguez, 39-1, in a nonleague baseball game Thursday at Bishop Amat.
The Lancers had 13 extra base hits: four home runs, four triples and five doubles.
Ted Persell (two home runs) and Damian Marquez had six hits each. Persell drove in 12 runs and scored seven, and Marquez scored six times.
Covina Gladstone set the previous record of 35 hits against Rialto Eisenhower in 1973.
Bishop Amat scored in every inning, including 10 runs in the first and 12 in the sixth. The Lancers’ 39 runs ties for third on the all-time Southern Section list behind Whittier (45) and El Segundo (42).
