MISSION VIEJO : Home Depot Vote Appealed to Council
The Planning Commission’s controversial approval of a 120,000-square-foot home improvement store will be appealed to the City Council.
As expected, the appeal of the Planning Commission decision was filed Thursday at City Hall. But the surprise was that Councilman Robert A. Curtis turned in the appeal application in opposition to the Home Depot project.
Curtis’ action as a councilman essentially waives a $560 filing fee, which the councilman said is justified because the issue has repercussions for all of Mission Viejo.
Homeowners in the area are opposed to the plans to build a large home improvement store on 9.7 acres at one of the city’s busiest intersections, Marguerite and Crown Valley parkways.
About 175 angry residents packed City Hall at Monday’s Planning Commission meeting to protest the project’s impact on the neighborhood.
The Home Depot opponents plan to challenge an environmental impact report and traffic studies done for the project.
