HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Fullmer Blasts 2 Homers in Montclair Prep’s 12-Run 4th Inning

Junior second baseman Brad Fullmer hit two home runs in a 12-run fourth inning to lead Montclair Prep to a 23-3 rout of Village Christian in an Alpha League baseball game Friday at Village Christian.

All 12 runs by Montclair Prep (12-5-1, 5-0 in league play) were unearned.

The inning also featured a grand slam by Mike Gursey, three walks and four hit batsmen--including three in a row. Fullmer has eight home runs.

Montclair Prep’s first two batters were retired in the fourth before 12 consecutive batters reached base.

Senior right-hander Russell Ortiz (6-0) struck out eight and scattered seven hits.

In other baseball games:

Simi Valley 14, Thousand Oaks 3--The Pioneers (14-5, 6-2) scored nine runs in the sixth inning en route to a Marmonte League win at Thousand Oaks.

Simi Valley’s Britten Pond went two for four with three runs batted in and three runs, and Aaron Whitley had two hits.

Jim Chergey had two hits for the Lancers (3-15-1, 2-6).

Camarillo 6, Westlake 1--Senior right-hander Robby Lanouette threw a two-hitter, struck out five and walked one to lead Camarillo (9-8, 2-6) in a Marmonte League game at Westlake.

John Freedman had three hits and drove in two for Camarillo. Andy Hall and Jake Spahr each had two hits.

Newbury Park 15, Agoura 14--A five-run seventh inning was not enough for Agoura as Newbury Park took a Marmonte League win at Agoura.

Agoura’s Josh Markiewicz highlighted the seventh with a three-run double.

Brad Wright was three for four, including two doubles, and had six RBIs to lead Agoura (7-11, 3-5). Markiewicz was two for two, both doubles, and Kevin Sass was four for five.

Palmdale 3, Ridgecrest Burroughs 1--Junior right-hander Joe Garcia (3-4) tossed a five-hitter to lead Palmdale in a Golden League game at Ridgecrest.

Garcia struck out 13 and walked two for Palmdale (9-7, 4-3). Chris Paxton and Steve Lowe each had two hits for Palmdale.

Moorpark 11, Carpinteria 4--Eddie Romero was two for four and drove in four runs to lead Moorpark (13-1, 8-0) in a Tri-Valley League game at home.

Jake Flesher was two for four and drove in two for Moorpark. Sophomore left-hander Mike Vasquez (6-1) threw a five-hitter, struck out seven and walked three.

St. Bonaventure 11, Oak Park 5--Junior catcher John McNamara, who hit a grand slam and doubled, set or tied three school single-season records for St. Bonaventure in a Tri-Valley League game at Oak Park.

McNamara tied school marks for extra-base hits (12) and RBIs (30) and set a record for total bases (50). Trevor Haba added two hits for St. Bonaventure (7-8, 3-5). Damin Sterling and Eric Pryor each had two hits for Oak Park.

Hart 5, Burbank 3--Junior right-hander Gary Stephenson (5-2) allowed six hits and struck out four to lead the Indians (16-2, 9-0) to a Golden League victory.

Burbank’s George Gonzalez was the game’s only player with two hits.

Glendale 10, Muir 6--The Dynamiters parlayed three hits and one error into four-run eighth inning in a Pacific League game at Muir.

With the bases loaded and the score tied, 6-6, Brenden Barrett scored on an infield error what turned out to be the winning run.

Oxnard 4, Dos Pueblos 3 (10 innings)--Chuck Harrington’s two-out single in the 10th drove in the winning run to end a Channel League game at Oxnard.

With runners on first and second and two out, Harrington singled to left to drive home Abel Romero with the game-winner for Oxnard (4-11-1, 3-4-1).

Calabasas 6, Nordhoff 2--Brian Bruskrud was two for three to lead Calabasas (5-8, 2-5) in a Frontier League game at Nordhoff.

Bell-Jeff 3, Salesian 0--John Bullock was two for three, including a triple, and had two runs batted in to lead Bell-Jeff (4-11) to a fifth-place finish in the St. Paul tournament.

Crossroads 11, Faith Baptist 6--Alex Estrada was two for four with a homer and drove in four runs for Faith Baptist in a Delphic League game at Glover Park in Santa Monica.

Buckley 7, Whitney 2--Shortstop Chris Irwin had three hits, drove in two runs and swiped three bases to lead Buckley in a Delphic League game at home.

Paraclete 6, Desert 5--araclete trailed, 5-3, but scored three runs in the seventh for a Desert-Inyo Large League victory at home. With runners on second and third with two out and a full count, Frank Stanley hit a three-run home run to center field to win the game for Paraclete (7-5, 4-0).

Canyon 8, Quartz Hill 3--Chuck Schuster, Josh Malneck and Ray Avalos each had two hits to pace the Cowboys (7-9, 6-3) in a Golden League victory over host Quartz Hill.

Chatsworth 8, Banning 0--Senior right-hander Eric Holliday pitched a three-hitter and faced just two batters over the minimum to help the Chancellors (9-9) beat Banning in a University tournament game.

Santa Paula 2, Highland 1--Brian Whittaker allowed four hits and struck out nine as host Santa Paula (8-9) won a nonleague game.

Harvard-Westlake 12, Inglewood 8--Pitcher Adam Richards had two doubles and five RBIs as host Harvard-Westlake (11-5) won a nonleague game. Richards (3-3) allowed three runs in four innings.

SOFTBALL

Nordhoff 5, Calabasas 3--A seventh-inning Calabasas error allowed the visiting Rangers (3-4 in league play) to score two unanswered runs and steal a Frontier League game.

Bell-Jeff 2, Oakwood 1--Sophomore right-hander Carrie Breedlove (7-8) threw a no-hitter to lead Bell-Jeff in a nonleague game at Olive Park in Burbank.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Camarillo d. Agoura, 13-15, 15-11, 11-15, 15-9, 15-10--Brady Andresen broke Camarillo’s team and individual records for kills in a match with 29 in a Marmonte League victory at Agoura. Camarillo’s Dan Wachter set a school record for individual assists in a match with 72. Camarillo (11-1, 9-1 in league) also broke two other school records: blocks (46) and kills (87).

Poly d. Grant, 12-15, 15-12, 2-15, 15-10, 15-12--Damian Martin had a team-high 20 kills to lead Poly in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Grant.

Royal d. Thousand Oaks, 15-9, 15-5, 15-9--Brett Osterhoudt had 13 kills to lead Royal in a Marmonte League match at Thousand Oaks.

Channel Islands d. Simi Valley, 9-15, 15-12, 15-11, 17-15--Zenas Balbuena led Channel Islands with 22 kills in a Marmonte League win at home.

BOYS’ TRACK

Birmingham 97, Canoga Park 30--Tony Serpas blazed 10.7 seconds in the 100 meters and 22.3 in the 200 to win both events and ran on the Braves’ winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams in a Valley Pac-8 Conference meet at home.

Reseda 66, El Camino Real 61--After 14 events and the score tied, 61-61, Reseda timed 3:35.2 to win the mile relay and clinch second place in the Northwest Valley Conference.

GIRLS’ TRACK

Chatsworth 60, Taft 58--Chatsworth finished in a three-way tie for the West Valley League title with Taft and El Camino Real when Taft’s victorious mile relay team was disqualified for interference at Chatsworth.
