MOORPARK : Council to Consider Expansion of City
The Moorpark City Council plans to begin making decisions Wednesday on a set of proposals that could more than double the number of homes in the city.
After four months of hearings, the council has agreed to push ahead on updating the city’s General Plan and resolving whether to expand the city’s boundaries.
The council will consider development proposals for inside and outside the current city limits that could increase the number of homes in Moorpark from about 7,500 to more than 18,000.
On Wednesday, the council will begin deciding on several proposed General Plan amendments that would allow developers to build more than 3,500 homes inside the current city boundaries.
Most of these proposed developments are on the sparsely populated hillsides north and northwest of downtown.
In addition, the council plans to decide by the end of May whether Moorpark should annex up to 6.3 square miles of mostly vacant property bordering the city’s northeast and southwest edges. Developers have proposed to build more than 7,000 homes in those areas.
