ORANGE : Group Seeks Data on Breast Implants
A newly formed group seeking more information on the safety of breast implants will meet today in the basement of St. Joseph Hospital.
The group, called Women’s Implant Information Network, was formed in reaction to a recent decision by an advisory panel of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to place a moratorium on polyurethane breast implants.
Though the FDA is now allowing these implants on a limited basis, for many women, there is still “anxiety over implants, “ said Sandy Finestone, a member of the group.
Finestone, who wears polyurethane implants because of a mastectomy, said that for now “the women that have (implants) still have no answers” as to whether they are safe.
Also concerned, she said, are women “in transition,” women who have had a mastectomy as well as surgery preparing them for implants but who have not yet had implant surgery.
The group’s goal, Finestone said, is to seek concise, comprehensive and unbiased information about breast implants and make it available to the public.
The group will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Classroom A in the basement of St. Joseph Hospital. For further information, call (714) 261-6020.
