Computer Firm Xircom’s Net Jumps in 2nd Quarter

Xircom Inc., which went public last month, said its fiscal second-quarter earnings tripled from a year earlier as its sales more than doubled.

The Calabasas-based company, which supplies components for local area networks that link computers, said its net income in the quarter ended March 31 jumped to $1.35 million from $440,000 a year earlier. Its sales rose to $14.2 million from $6.1 million.

Xircom’s profit in the first half of its fiscal year rose to $2.67 million from $897,000, and its six-month sales surged to $27.5 million from $10.6 million.

Xircom’s initial public stock offering was held March 31, when 3.5 million common shares were sold for $14 each. Xircom itself sold 2.9 million of those shares, raising about $37 million in net proceeds after paying underwriting fees and other costs.
