Tulmar Adds to Plant Size

Tulmar Corp., an Oxnard firm that produces plastic containers, gift items, shopping cart handles and other products, has added more than 60% to its plant size and is completing its third acquisition since Jan. 1.

Tom Martin Sr., Tulmar’s president, said the acquisitions, along with improved business, should enable his privately held company to nearly double its payroll in the next 90 days. Fifty employees now work at Tulmar and AIS Inc., a silk-screening concern that was purchased in February.

Tulmar this month added 26,000 square feet to the plant it leases in the Channel Islands Business Center, bringing the total to 67,000 square feet, according to Paul Farry of TOLD Corp., which handled the transaction.

In addition to AIS, Tulmar recently acquired a local box manufacturer and is in the process of buying a local printing firm, Martin said. He declined to name either company but said the box maker was in bankruptcy court proceedings at the time it was acquired.

Martin said Tulmar’s annual sales total $5 million. He said the firm’s customers include Hanna-Barbera Products Inc., Hallmark Cards Inc., and other marketers of gift items and plastic products.
